William Basinski Announces New Album That Uses Black Hole Sounds

Avant-garde composer William Basinski has announced a new album: On Time Out of Time is out March 8 via Temporary Residence. Basinski originally composed the music for the 2017 installations ER=EPR and Orbihedron by the artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand. According to a press release, “These works utilize, among other things, exclusive source recordings from the interferometers of LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) capturing the sounds of the merging of two distant massive black holes, 1.3 billion years ago.”

William Basinski is performing at Midwinter, Pitchfork and the Art Institute of Chicago’s three-night event taking place at the Art Institute from February 15-17. Find tickets here.
